Thanks to the support of the French Embassy in Cambodia and of the organizers of the Women’s Forum, Passerelles numériques was able to attend and contribute to the exchanges, during the Youth and Leaders Forum, the first part of the Women’s Forum Asia event organized in Singapore for its 2019 edition.

On September 17, a Passerelles numériques delegation had the opportunity to travel to Singapore to participate in the Women’s Forum Asia, and in particular its first highlight, the Youth and Leaders Forum. A great opportunity for Maud Lhuillier (Asia Director), Eléonore Iriart (PN Cambodia General Manager), Marice Jade Chua (PN Philippines General Manager), Trang VO (PN Vietnam General Manager), Océane Xayakhom (Asia External Relations Officer) and Moritz Laqua (Asia External Relations and Development Manager) to attend interesting exchanges around “Taking the Lead: Our Future Belongs to All of Us”.

Two PN Cambodia alumni: Peak Toch and Omuoy Heang, were able to be part of the trip, one thanks to the support of the French Embassy in Cambodia, and the other thanks to the support of her employer!

Omuoy Heang also had the great honor to be part of the panel discussion on “Diversity in tech: shaping the gender balance of the future”. The PN team was proud to see one of its former students speaking, in English, on a Singapore scene about such an important topic!

We asked Omuoy about her impressions:

Can you present yourself? My name is Omuoy Heang. I graduated from PN Cambodia in 2012. I’m Founder and Operations Manager at Camsolution Technology. I’m also a Regional Ambassador of Technovation, the world’s biggest global technology and entrepreneurship programs for girls aged 10 to 18.

What do you think of the Youth/Women forum? The event is great and enables me to meet a lot of people from all over Asia, as well as French and other foreigners living in Singapore. I learnt about women, business, the economy and the way women empower women to grow the economy of the country, and how to attract talent and investment capital thanks to insights shared by the speakers and participants. It is my great honor to be a speaker of shaping diversity in STEM which benefits people, the country and the whole region.

What can these events bring you, to your business? I was able to extend networking and association with a lot of people from different backgrounds and perspectives that contribute to building my skills and knowledge. I discovered a lot of new business models, examples of successful businesses, mindsets, people, potential customers, etc. Also, a new partnership thanks to an encounter at  the forum is about to be created!
Meeting PN Board members and sponsors from various international companies in Singapore was another memorable event which inspires me and strengthens my existing principle of giving back to the community.
I’m grateful to PN Cambodia for giving me this great opportunity and to the French embassy in Cambodia for inviting me to be a speaker at the event.

In the training/education that PN gave you, what did you use/apply to get where you are? PNC gave me a better life and made me become myself today. Education changes people’s lives, including mine. I have been applying both soft and hard skills learned from PN Cambodia in my daily life, work and business. Without PNC, I wouldn’t be myself today.

How do you wish to promote gender equality in the future? Diversity is required everywhere in the world. Men and women working together always brings great achievements which benefit everyone.
I will continue doing my work to empower women in technology and entrepreneurship by being a role model, supporter and mentor to unlock their potential, let them know and remember that we are not just women in the home in Cambodia. Women have great power to make positive changes that impact first themselves, then the country, the region and indeed  the whole world!

Omuoy’s words are fully echoed in the exchanges and testimonies heard during the Forum.

Maud Lhuillier, PN Asia Director, shares with us the message she got from this day:

“Education, Environment, Technology, Economy, Politics, … women not only have a place, a voice and a contribution to make to all sectors of an evolving APAC region, but women’s leadership is also essential in a changing world of work where the narrative of success is part of a revolution.

Thus, in an environment that is not yet ready to integrate them (a question of culture, of habits combined with the absence of role models), it is up to women to take their role in hand, to rewrite these codes and trace their trajectory. Not only because they have the same ability as men, but also because they owe it to a society which needs all its vital forces, and which cannot do without the wealth, points of view, ideas and energy of more than half of its population.”

Finally, on the sidelines of the Forum, a “Meet and Greet” evening was organized at Laurence Huret (member of the PN Board of Directors in Singapore)’s home, to allow PN representatives visiting Singapore to meet partners, donors and Board members! In a friendly and warm atmosphere, they were able to ask them all the questions that were important to them to learn more about our action and thus better understand our impact.
