The 2018 SNA students after their presentations

March 1st 2018 was the end of the IT Research project, a two-month independent research for the SNA (System & Network Administration) students at our centre in Cambodia.

Two months earlier, the SNA training team had assigned their 24 students a subject that would enable them to use all their abilities to research and learn new IT topics by themselves.

For eight weeks, students had to plan their research during their free time and send a weekly work log to their tutors so that they could monitor their progress. Students also had to document their project using the templates provided by the training team. Many PN Cambodia staff members got involved to support this project and the SNA team. The Professional Life and English teams were key roles for correcting English mistakes in the report and during the presentation. The IT Admin team helped the SNA teachers to tutor the students. All PNC staff was also invited to join the final presentation and be part of the jury.

Indeed, besides being assessed on the quality of documentation and emails, students also had to make a final presentation. Each one of them demonstrated their results during a 30-minute presentation (including 10 minutes for Q&A) in front of a jury and their classmates.
Many subjects were addressed, such as “Symantec backup”, ‘Repository server on Ubuntu’, “DHCP and DNS redundancy” or “TACACS Server on CentOS” – very specific topics that belongs to the IT field.

This demanding activity aims to develop our students’ technical skills, English writing and speaking skills, their presentation skills and also the way they maintain communication, how they answer emails, their self-sufficiency, confidence and troubleshooting skills.

We are happy to announce that all our students passed: they all managed to communicate well with their tutors through email and face-to-face meetings. They handed the documentation on time and fulfilling all requirements. Some students had been struggling to complete the research but motivation and willingness were their keystones to overcoming these difficulties. The teachers have noticed a big improvement in students’ presentation skills and they built their confidence while successfully seeing their project through.

All in all, the 2018 IT research was a big success! Thanks to PN Cambodia teachers and congratulations to SNA students!
