About the crisis
Benoit GenuiniThe economic and financial crisis has so far effected the entire world. For its poorest countries, who are only now beginning to recover from the huge increase in the price of staple foodstuffs which had marked 2008, the IMF has declared that the crisis is directly threatening their considerable progress made during the past decade and has underlined that the protection of spending on the health, education and vital infrastructure of these countries is essential in order to avoid a humanitarian crisis.

As you may well know, the situations is more fragile than ever. It has never been as important to show solidarity.

It is for this reason that Passerelles Numériques continues to fight. The first positive results are already in: the 80 students of our first two CIST graduations have acquired stable socio-professional situations, receiving salaries from five to seven times the local rates. The 237 students who are currently in training are just as promising and we are launching a new pilot course comprising 25 students, 14 of whom we are are proud to say are young women, this month (June 2009) in the Philippines.

I am grateful and would like to thank you for all of your respective help: our partners, donors, collaborators and volunteers, without whom this adventure could never have been started.

I hope that our letter of information will provide you with some concrete examples of our advance towards a better future for the underprivileged young. Enjoy the read.
Benoît Genuini, president of Passerelles Numeriques
